It's not even a matter of opinion any more, nearly every game I join is extremely one-sided (largely due to the ridiculously bad idea that complete squads should be allowed to join public matches) to the point of the game being over within the first 1-2 minutes (i.e. 35 vs 70 clones left, that kinda thing).
People don't even respawn and try to fight back and why should they? They damage their permanent KDR stats (another great idea there, CCP) and lose isk. It's only worth fighting if you're actually on the winning side, to farm kills best you can.
I've been saying this since I joined the beta and all it gets me is scolded on here. 35-70....that's sound like it was a decent fight at one point. Ive seen skirmishes end 0-100+! That's ridiculous. The idea that one of the high stakes maps has the MCC INSIDE the redline and not in the redzone leads me to think that's the intended premise, spawn camping.
I suggested a spawn damage delay in another thread because the current setup does not allow one to defend themselves upon spawning. I think 2.5 seconds where one cannot take or deal any damage would make a small improvement. I also think if they moved the MCCs deeper into the redzones and possibly at a raised elevation it would help people fight out of their spawn. These things would help people TRY to fight out of a winless situation rather than like you said, hide or not even spawn, or just leave.
That would alleviate a tiny portion of the imbalance in this game. Without some serious fixes/changes to the current dynamics of ambush and skirmish, and/or alternatives in AND outside of planetary conquest, then few noobs will stick around. If, they even give it much of a chance in the first place. After about 2.5 months of playing regularly, it just continues to be mundane.
I will reserve final judgment for the full build. Right now I see a game that maybe 5-10 thousand people will play regularly at any given time. That's pretty miniscule compared to even 2nd and 3rd rate FPS games. Those games usually maintain their base because they don't fix glitches...because.... The base relies on those glitches and then over time the base finds a new glitch in a new game and the old game eventually dies off.
Participants must believe that their actions will affect the outcome. This game has the potential to be regarded as top of its class but it will not reach that potential unless there are changes. Lets all think about it....Yeah your probably going to lose several gutless mercs whose hearts were set on lazy-*** spawn camping and glitch tactics. But, think of how many MORE new players will be gained and think too, they may actually stick with it for a while.
What CCP doesn't want to do, is put out this FPS, and it become widely unpopular. I understand that they have been very successful in the past with other projects but the hardcore FPS community is very unforgiving. The have memories like elephants when it comes to studios. This can be seen in the "great Treyarch divide" of the COD franchise. Treyarch did great things for the franchise in my opinion. But the fact that they made complete garbage in the past has led a significant portion of IW faithful and FPS enthusiasts to avoid the Black Ops games.
The kind of dedication that this game requires/desires from its players is the kind that is earned through offering an enjoyable experience more than 10% of the time. Spawn camping, glitching, being spawn camped or glitched, complete unchallenged domination, and suicide missions are just not fun to the majority of people with any *******. |

I wish they wouldn't track kdr in a lot of games. It encourages camping or worse yet, hiding altogether. W/L is a more telling stat in my opinion. KDR is irrelevant because of tanks and the overall weapon, shield, armor, etc. imbalance between the haves and have nots. Spawn camping...once again, also skews kdr importance. |
